Description:

Suitable for anyone who has volunteered or been nominated by their employer to fulfil the statutory duty of care as laid down by the Health & Safety Executive (First-Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1982. Employers are legally responsible to provide the necessary First Aid cover at your place of work.

If the assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need for a qualified First Aiders, then this course will provide suitable trained personnel.

This course covers a wide variety of medical topic enabling the participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt safe and effective way.

Duration:

This is an 18 hours course which is covered over 3 days although this can be arranged over a longer period if required.

The course consists of both theory and skill stations. All learners are assessed at the end of the course with a multiple choice question paper and 3 practical assessments by independent HSE (NI) approved assessors. Syllabus: Some of the subjects covered:

  • Responsibilities and Reporting Basic Life Support (Adult and Child)
  • Dealing with unconsciousness
  • Breathing related conditions
  • Burns and scalds
  • Soft tissue Injuries
  • Head Injuries Incident Management/Casualty Care
  • Heart Attacks/Cardiac Arrest
  • Control of Bleeding
  • Choking casualty
  • Fractures (Breaks)
  • Poisoning

 

Certification:

Subject to assessment by independent approved assessor, all successful learners will be issued with a First Aid At Work (NI) Certificate.

This is valid for a period of 3 years and need to be renewed by attending a 2 days update re-qualification course before the 3 years have expired.

Course Capacity A maximum of 12 students can be accommodated on this course and must be aged 16 and above.

All students will be issued with an up to date First Aid Manual.
